Partner Choi, “War and Disputes Ultimately Begin with the Fracture of Relationships”

Partner Attorney Sinyoung Choi of Cha & Kwon Law Offices explained that understanding modern conflicts requires examining the underlying changes in relationships. Observing the recurring themes in book titles and social discussions can reveal the anxieties and interests of society. In recent years, topics such as artificial intelligence, the semiconductor industry, and the global economy have become increasingly prominent, reflecting a time when global events are directly connected to the everyday lives of individuals.

She noted that shifts in international dynamics and technological advancement are also transforming the nature of warfare. In the context of recent military tensions in the Middle East, generative artificial intelligence has reportedly been used for intelligence analysis, target identification, and battlefield simulation. This development suggests that AI is evolving beyond a simple tool and beginning to serve as a strategic advisory system in military operations. Modern battlefields are no longer defined solely by missiles and fighter jets but increasingly involve algorithms, data, and networks.

Attorney Choi emphasized that beneath these global conflicts and market fluctuations lies the fundamental element of relationships. Law itself exists to regulate relationships between people, while contracts and transactions are built upon trust and predictability. When relationships remain stable, both markets and societies tend to maintain stability as well.

Conversely, when the “temperature” of relationships drops sharply, conflicts take on entirely different forms. In the international arena, such tensions can escalate into war, while between individuals they may develop into disputes that ultimately reach civil or criminal courts. Attorney Choi concluded that both wars and legal disputes originate from fractures in relationships, and that understanding these conflicts requires careful attention to the dynamics and balance within human relationships.
